Programs We Use

We use A New Freedom as our main therapeutic program model. This model provides kids with the resources they need to transition from residential care to community reintegration. We also use the Nurtured Heart Approach.  The Nurtured Heart Approach is used to positively manage behaviors and help develop a child’s inner greatness. Our social service professionals meet weekly with residents, focusing on treatment goals. Youth are also required to maintain journals.

We feel it is important for children to develop good work habits. Daily tasks are assigned to youth, and they are taught to use their time productively. Our Summer Work Program also has a volunteer component where kids learn to give back to their community.

We believe recreation plays an important role in a young person’s development. Our residents may be involved in school-sponsored events, according to their program level. We also encourage participation in bowling, swimming, fishing, boating, hiking and biking. Our on-site rec rooms offer treadmills, weights, exercise bikes, Wii Fit, ping pong, foosball, billiards and more. In addition to these activities, weekly health, fitness and art classes are offered through our community partners.

Level System
The Level System is a behavioral-management tool that Eckert Youth Homes uses. It consists of three levels: green, blue and silver. As a resident advances through the levels, he or she receives increased responsibility and privileges. The Level System teaches appropriate behavior by linking rewards, privileges and consequences to clearly defined behavioral expectations.
