Job Overview

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for delivering patient care within their treatment program; accurately administer medication and treatment; communicate effectively and in a therapeutic manner with staff, clients, and family members; and complete documentation according to Eckert policy. Services provided would be in alignment with and promote the mission and values of the organization and would comply with all regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to providing care to residents of Eckert, providing individual and group education to service recipients, and providing necessary trainings to the staff at Eckert.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Work with and independently of physicians to provide health care for patients.
  • Coordinate all medical appointments and update stakeholders and parents as necessary.
  • Perform physical health assessments; compile health data to include health history.
  • Make a determination of physical health care status and needs.
  • Complete pre-admission health screens via phone.
  • Conduct a health screen within 24 hours of entry back into care after an incident of running away.
  • Provide health care interventions to address behavioral health maintenance needs.
  • Coordinate all client medications prior to admission and at discharge per Eckert’s policies and procedures.
  • Provide weekly supervision to all CMA and CNA employees along with training of staff wanting to become CNA or CMA.
  • Prepare and review client MARs.
  • Instruct and counsel patients regarding prescribed therapeutic regimens and health maintenance needs.
  • Provide necessary trainings to Eckert staff on topics including but not limited to Bloodborne Pathogens, Infection Control Training, NARCAN and Medication Administration.
  • Order and prepare withdrawal assessments (CIWA, COWS) for all clients in Social Detoxification level of care.
  • Create treatment plans necessary for clients in ASAM Level III.2 Social Detoxification.
  • Coordinate care with other providers and insurance companies to share observations and recommendations as well as re-evaluate patients to determine progress throughout care.
  • Monitor patient adherence to treatment plan and determine if goals are being met.
  • Provide educational individual or group therapies with adults and adolescents.
  • Provide group therapy and substance use education based on objectives identified in the treatment plan. This may include individual and family therapy as necessary.
  • Document timely and accurately the patient assessments, evaluations, and therapy notes
  • Exercise professional duty to warn in cases of child and vulnerable adult protection.
  • Obtain releases of information and acknowledge CFR 42 laws when sharing recommendations with client, family/guardian, and other care providers for feedback.
  • Participate with organization’s leadership and staff in efforts to achieve and maintain COA accreditation.
  • Other professional health services commonly performed at this level.
  • On-call responsibilities associated with the position.

Supervisory Responsibility
The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing supervision to Certified Medication Assistants and Certified Nursing Assistants.

Work Environment
This job is performed in an office setting located in a residential facility. This position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This position would be as a full-time employee who is able to supervise CNA/CMA staff, perform well child checks for new admits, lead an educational class for an hour each on Wednesday and Friday mornings, preparation for the classes and train staff.

Travel
This position requires occasional travel.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of being a licensed as a Registered Nurse by the ND Board of Nursing and a minimum of one year of work experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • Prior experience working with children, adolescents, and/or adults in addiction counseling services preferred.
  • Strong clinical skills required. Psychiatric, medical surgical, and critical care background preferred, but not necessary.
  • Individual must be flexible and innovative in carrying out assigned responsibilities.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Training and understanding of HIPAA Compliance for Health Care Professionals.
  • Training and understanding in trauma-informed care.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills to manage crisis situations as well as conduct effective day-to-day interactions within program and service settings.
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to a positive and productive team environment.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to pass an employee physical, criminal background check, and a child abuse and neglect background check.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.

Other Duties
Duties may be assigned by the clinical director as needed.
